Bike Rack Wholesale Price: What Drives Cost Per Unit

How a bike rack wholesale price per unit is built: steel mass, finish, anchoring, quantity breaks, packing and Incoterms, plus how to compare quotes fairly.

Bike Rack Wholesale Price: What Drives Cost Per Unit

A bike rack wholesale price per unit is a build-up, not a catalogue figure. Steel mass, tube gauge, finish, anchor hardware, quantity break, packing method and delivery term each move the number — and two inverted-U racks that look identical in a photograph can land a third apart once all seven are fixed. The practical route to a usable price is to freeze the specification first, then ask two or three factories to quote the same bill of materials, at the same quantity, on the same term.

Quick answer: Wholesale bike rack pricing is quoted per rack unit, at a stated quantity break, on a stated Incoterm, against a stated fixing detail. Ask for FOB and CIF side by side and treat any figure missing those three qualifiers as a placeholder. The rack range here lists its own MOQ and quantity tiers on each product page, so the same rack carries two very different unit rates depending on the run you actually need.

Fix the Unit Before You Compare Anything

Three pricing bases are in circulation, and mixing them is the most common reason a wholesale comparison appears to show a bargain that is not one.

Pricing basisWhen a supplier quotes this wayWhat to verify before ranking the quotes
Per rack unitCatalogue racks: one price per hoop stand, vertical stand or multi-loop frameWhether anchors, base plates and packing sit inside the price
Per bicycle spaceHigh-capacity multi-racks and framework tendersRated capacity must come from the supplier's own specification sheet, never from a photograph. Per-model capacity is pending factory confirmation, so request it in writing
Per kilogramCustom fabrication and one-off architectural racksSteel rate, finish area and hardware are normally billed separately from the frame

Convert every quote to cost per rack unit at your real quantity before you compare. A per-space figure is only meaningful once the capacity claim behind it is documented.

The Six Items That Move the Unit Price

Most of the gap between a lean quote and an expensive one sits in this table. Each row is a decision you can make explicitly, and a line you can ask a supplier to itemise.

The finish row deserves its own attention, because it is the most frequently under-specified item in a wholesale enquiry. Galvanized, powder-coated and stainless bodies are three different products at three different price levels; a quote that says only "steel" has not been priced yet. The coating and stainless sections of the specifications hub set out what each system is expected to do in service. The same six drivers apply across the full rack and bollard range — from a single galvanized hoop such as the Velo-Safe bike rack to a freestanding VertiPark vertical stand — and what changes from model to model is which driver dominates.

How Quantity Breaks Actually Work

Wholesale pricing on street furniture steps down at fixed quantities rather than sliding smoothly. In the current rack range the ladder steps at 50 / 200 / 500 pcs on the stainless multi-rack and the vertical stand, and at 100 / 500 / 2,000 pcs on the galvanized inverted-U — the exact tiers are printed on each product page and on the model's own quotation.

Three rules govern the ladder:

  • Setup is amortised, not hidden. Cutting programs, fixtures and first-article inspection are one-time costs spread over the whole run. That is the real reason a large tier is cheaper, not a discount policy.
  • Tiers are per model. Combining several models into one order rarely reaches a higher tier on any single model, so the saving on mixed containers comes from freight and packing, not from the unit rate.
  • A quantity just under a break is worth re-checking. Moving from the tier below to the tier above is often cheaper in total than the smaller order, once the per-unit step is applied.

The Landed Cost Stack

A wholesale price quoted FOB is the factory gate, not the project cost. Build the whole stack before you present a budget, and note which layer each party owns.

Cost layerNormally quoted byWhere money quietly disappears
Unit price (FOB)FactoryFixing hardware or packing excluded and added later
Ocean freightForwarderVolume versus weight — racks are bulky, so chargeable volume decides
InsuranceForwarder or factoryNot quoted at all on small orders
Duty and import VATYour brokerCalculated on FOB plus freight, so a cheap unit price still carries duty
Port, clearance and haulageBroker and haulierCrane or tail-lift needed for long crates
Site distribution and installationContractorAnchors, templates and drilling time omitted from the furniture package

The container loading and landed cost guide walks through how rack frames nest inside a mixed container with benches and bins, which is usually where a per-unit price is won or lost on a bulk order.

Terms That Belong Next to the Number

A per-unit price without a validity date is not a commitment. Steel moves, so ask for a stated validity window, a currency and the payment split — the structure used here is 30% deposit with the balance against shipping documents. Confirm as well whether the rate holds for the whole run or is re-based if the quantity shifts between tiers, and whether artwork or fixture setup is billed once or repeated per shipment.

Four Ways a Wholesale Price Gets Inflated

  • Per-space compared against per-rack. The cheaper-looking figure is often the one with an undocumented capacity claim behind it.
  • No fixing detail in the enquiry. Anchors, base plates and templates then arrive as a variation after the order is placed.
  • Finish assumed rather than stated. "Powder-coated" and "hot-dip galvanized" are not interchangeable, and neither is a substitute for 304 stainless on a coastal site.
  • Packing left out. Loose racks in a container are cheap to pack and expensive to receive, because damage and re-work land on site.

How to Specify — What to Send Us

Send these eight items and the reply is a priced proposal against your own specification rather than a list of questions:

  1. Rack type and quantity per model, plus the total package if benches or bins ship together.
  2. Site plan, or at least the bay dimensions the racks must fit.
  3. Surface: asphalt, block paving, concrete slab or embedded in a planting strip.
  4. Finish direction — galvanized, powder-coated with a RAL reference, or 304 stainless.
  5. Whether locking bars, wheel trays or naming plates are required.
  6. Any branding: laser-cut plate, powder-coat logo or applied vinyl.
  7. Delivery term and destination port, so FOB and CIF can be quoted side by side.
  8. The installation date you are working back from, so the tier and shipping window are realistic.

Two supporting pages shorten this step: the bike rack and bollard range shows the formats already tooled, and the rack spacing and layout dimensions inside the specifications hub give the planning bands that decide how many units a bay will take. If the quantity question is still open, the bike parking sizing method turns a site area into a rack count before any price is requested.

Send the specification through the contact page and we will return a per-unit price at your quantity, the tier it sits in, and the fixing detail it assumes — with FOB and CIF shown separately so the landed number is yours to check.
